South-Gascony and The Central Pyrenees – west and south west of Toulouse.

You may like to have some background information to help you to decide to visit our region and….
maybe even settle here. You will be very welcome.

Our area of the Central Pyrenees south west of Toulouse is an area of outstanding beauty – still waiting to be discovered - with countryside ranging from gentle rolling hills to the dramatic peaks of the Pyrenees, from meadows filled with a large variety of wild flowers to streams and rivers filled with fish to shady woodland areas, from fortified villages to lively market towns and the dynamic and beauty of Toulouse.

The climate is mild with beautiful summers – not too hot and always cool enough to sleep well at night. In winter you have very often warm sunny periods, easily up to 16 - 18 degrees centigrade or more with of course sometimes cold nights (round about freezing point) alternating with the necessary cool rainy days. However periods of bad weather never last very long and the sun soon comes out again.

From your new home you can be in a peaceful walking area of the Pyrenees or in a Skiing resort in about one hour’s drive. Should you decide to go to the seaside, you touch the coast, both Atlantic or Mediterranean in about 2 hours driving time. Spain is near enough to drive there for lunch!

You like to discover historical places and the history of the area? Come and explore the countryside find a wealth of treasures from prehistoric sites to Roman remains, from Romanesque architecture through to 18th and 19th century buildings as well as traditional customs and Folklore.

Are you longing to live the French way of life, for example by shopping at your local market?
Every small town has one where you can buy really fresh and inexpensive produce from the local farmers, such as fruit and vegetables, traditionally made cheese, free range eggs, chicken – all with that genuine taste. On top of that shopping is a social event meeting neighbours and friends for a chat in a very relaxed atmosphere.

You can spoil yourself and your family and friends from time to time with traditional local food at typical restaurants – and they are not expensive.

Though the area is not very densely populated you find an excellent general infrastructure with good roads, little traffic and the usual supermarkets and other shops as well as schools, pharmacies, doctors. Here there are practically no waiting lists to see a specialist or for hospitalisation.

The airports of Toulouse, Pau, Biarritz and Carcassonne are all in about 60 to 120 minutes drive.

You can have real piece of mind as crime in our area of the countryside is almost non-existent as are traffic jams.
